Professor Wael Hamd is a faculty member at the University of Balamand, specializing in chemical processes, catalysis, and advanced nanomaterials. He earned his Master’s degree from Claude Bernard University (2005) and a PhD in Chemical Process and Materials Science from ENSCI and the University of Limoges, France (2009), followed by postdoctoral fellowships at leading institutions including Collège de France, Paris 7, CEA Grenoble, Sorbonne University, and the American University of Beirut (AUB).
With over 30 peer-reviewed publications and more than 50 international conference presentations, Dr. Hamd is recognized for his expertise in petroleum processing, hydrogen production, and photocatalysis, addressing critical environmental challenges such as the treatment of microplastics, nanoplastics, and emerging organic pollutants in water flows. He is an active partner in several European Horizon projects focused on tackling microplastics pollution and studying the impact of plastics from food packaging. His work bridges cutting-edge research with practical, sustainable solutions.

Dr. Khue Vu Nguyen (born in Ha Noi, Viet Nam) is currently Visiting Professor in the School of Medical Imaging, Jiangsu Medical College, Yancheng, 224005, China – Medical Imaging Institute of Jiangsu Medical College, Yancheng, 224005, China; and collaborating for research work with the Centre for Molecular Biophysics from Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, CNRS, at Orleans, 45071 Orleans, France.
He was Full Project Scientist in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, San Diego, California 92103, U.S.A. He has worked as Scientist in different French and U.S. Research Institutions and Companies. He has studied at University Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, France: B.S. in Biochemistry; M.S. in Molecular Biology; Ph.D. in Macromolecular Physical Chemistry; Ph.D. in Physical Sciences (Doctorat d’Etat es Sciences Physiques).
He is author and co-author of numerous publications and holder of many patents. He was a recipient of the foreign expert award for program No. G2021014081L under the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Peoples’s Republic of China, 2022, and listed in Who’s Who in the World; Who’s Who in America; Who’s Who in Science and Engineering; etc. from Marquis Who’s Who, New Providence, N.J., U.S.A., and named a 2024 Top Scholar by ScholarGPS® (within the top 0.5% of all scholars worldwide).
He is member of different academic organizations such as American Society for Microbiology; American Chemical Society. He is Editor-in-Chief of different scientific journals such as Current Pediatric Research; Enliven: Journal of Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology; Journal of Brain Research; etc. He is Editorial Board Member of different scientific journals such as Metabolic Brain Disease; Journal of Pediatric Genetics; Expert Opinion on Orphan Drugs; etc.
He is also Invited Reviewer of different scientific journals such as Molecular Genetics and Metabolism; AGE: Journal of the American Aging Association; Journal of Neural Transmission; etc. He is Scientist Reviewer for grant proposals of the Metabolic Disease Two (MB-2) of the Peer Review Medical Research Program (PRMRP) for the U.S. Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). Current research includes genetic diseases, neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and environmental science.
